Now Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege has joined the fray.

Game developer Ubisoft has announced ambitious plans for its major-event Six Invitational tournament in 2021. The Montreal-based gaming giant wants to hold the tournament towards the end of February, with 20 teams participating.

The challenge there, of course, is that’s there’s a little something called the COVID-19 Pandemic continuing to ruin the world as we know it. And while vaccines are on the cusp of being rolled out, no one is expecting an immediate magic bullet to fix things overnight.

As a result, the Six Invitational 2021 is making some changes to the event, the previous edition of which was held in Montreal earlier this year.

Twenty teams representing the four main Rainbow Six leagues (Latin America, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America) will participate. Those teams will fly to Europe to do battle in a country and venue to be announced at a later date.

Before you fire up Google Chrome to buy tickets, be advised that, with COVID-19 likely to still be a thing, all Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege competition will be offline with no audience. Ubisoft has added that all players from all teams will be expected to follow rigorous safety protocols, including one imagine’s mandatory quarantining after stepping off whatever plane they’ve taken.

Those looking to catch some top-flight action don’t have to be disappointed however. Rainbow Six has plenty of events scheduled online for the next couple of months, starting with the 2020 Regional Finals running from now until January.

Latin American teams will tempt the Gods by gathering in person for a LAN event. Again, expect strict safety protocols.
